In order to make it easier to provide support to my customers I decided it’s best to separate all things related to the 010dev brand from my personal stuff.

Starting today, 010dev is getting a new blog all for itself. All future announcements, workarounds and anything else related to the brand will be posted there.

In addition, the same goes for my twitter account @010dev which I will leave to announcing news and providing support while moving all the jibber jabber to my private account @ka010 be sure to give me a follow.

What’s a MetaWatch ?

Well, it’s a watch obviously, kind of a smart watch but not actually that smart, basically it’s a remote display for other devices to write to, connections are made via Bluetooth using SPP (a serial port protocol).

Still, leaving it rather dumb was a smart move, so I don’t really know what to call it, it’s pretty cool that’s for sure :)

Anyhow, after few delays, my MetaWatch (which I had originally pre-ordered back in May) finally shipped and I had almost a week now to play with it, here’s what I came up with so far. Read More

I’ve never posted this so here it is,
the full version of a review paper on Jailbreaking iOS, I’ve posted a while ago.

It’s not totally up to date anymore, but it covers the history of jailbreaking, the reasons it exsists, the technical background as well as the inner workings of some of the most recent tools which at the time of writing this paper have been Star or greenpois0n.

I didn’t’ really follow the recent developments in this field since writing this, so feel free to drop a comment if you have anything to add or feel like something needs to be updated.

A first preview of the newest member of the Reemote family

Reemote for Boxee mini.

This demo only scratches the surface of what’s possible with this little remote, stay tuned for more!

With GadgetConnect, Reemote for Airfoil and Reemote for Boxee on my iDevices, or things like tablets, smartphones and htpcs in general life already feels a little like living in the future to me, and I love it ! But I’m not really satisfied yet.

Today I finally managed to fix my broken openAMI system and again it felt like moving one step closer to living in the future, not really the hyped smarthome future with a talking avatar you know from tv, but rather a future where your smartphone is the gateway to pretty much anything, not only the outside world but also your home.

I think this is the way to go, it’s possible right now and doesn’t have to cost a fortune see for yourself.

I love Boxee, and I love the Boxee Box, but there were a few things I didn’t like so much.
First of all, the new UI wasn’t so great but I could live with it, then the Last.fm and YouTube Apps missing which was pretty bad as they were my top most used apps plus the latest firmware update broke all the fancy features in Reemote for Boxee.

I’m sure the devs at Boxee have put a lot of work into delivering these updates, especially the UI part, so I feel kinda bad to show people how to get rid of them, but in the end I think users should get the experience they want, so here it is.

How to downgrade the Boxee Box

As it turns out, downgrading the Boxee Box is not a big deal. No custom firmware flashing or anything is required, the box itself includes a recovery mode that allows to restore the firmware to factory settings or in other words Boxee Beta.
Of course it’s possible to update again at any given time. Read More

I’ve got several requests to define what features of Reemote for Boxee are also working with the Boxee Box, so here it is.

Working:

  • Navigation - you can use gesture-based navigation or a virtual stick to navigate the Boxee OSD.
  • Now Playing – you get now-playing infos, depending on what’s playing these may include cover-art, ratings, plot outlines…
  • Lookups – you can search google and youtube on what’s currently playing.
  • Sharing - you can easily share what’s currently playing on twitter and facebook.

Not Working:

  • Media Shares - content browsing breaks with the latest Boxee Box firmware.
  • Shortcuts - all shortcuts to directly jump to a specific section e.g. Movies or Apps also break with the latest update.

Please note that the Boxee Box still remains unsupported and none of this is guaranteed to work!
